What to do with the NHL?
Got ya now, all I have to do is keep you reading. As some of you may know, I have a grassroots candidacy going to become the next N.H.L. Commissioner. If you have been a fan of the National Hockey League for the past 20 years you have seen the product deteriorate to almost unwatchable at times. For now let’s start with this one simple lesson Gary Bettman has taught us, keep hockey out of non-traditional markets!!! So for you Caneiacs, members of Smashville, Yoties and Panthers fans this is about the time you check out of this column….Good did they leave, ok, kiddies the problem with the NHL, I mean all the gimmicks and crummy ass hockey fans, the half empty buildings, the Reebok exclusive deal, the jerseys that don’t fit right, your team changing its jersey every 3 yeas, whose hands does this all fall into, Gary Bettman.
Gary Bettman the name that makes me sick to my stomach worse than tequila (long night at Mako’s in Orlando, we wont break out that story, trust me) the not knowing the game commissioner is in love with not knowing the game fans, and then changes rules to make the game more interesting for them, hell a glow puck was smarter than the shoot out, but changing the Conference names and Divisional names to geographic names because you have people who have no idea who Lester Patrick was is where I draw the line.
With the impending move of the Coyotes to most likely Winnipeg and Atlanta moving somewhere and Florida most likely moving somewhere and Columbus moving somewhere and would you like me to keep going on teams Butterman has brought into the league, this is the league that the New Jersey Devils and their 1988 Playoff Run got me excited about the game about and this is the same league that made me totally disinterested following the 2004-05 lockout.
With the fact that the NHLPA won’t allow for contraction and the league can not go back to divisions I propose the following, first the current NHL divisions with the names they should have, then new realignment, and following that the teams that I believe will move and new realignment.
Prince of Wales Conference
Patrick Division Adams Division Richard Division
New Jersey Devils Boston Bruins Atlanta Thrashers
New York Islanders Buffalo Sabres Carolina Hurricanes
New York Rangers Montreal Canadiens Florida Panthers
Philadelphia Flyers Ottawa Senators Tampa Bay Lightning
Pittsburgh Penguins Toronto Maple Leafs Washington Capitals
Clarence S. Campbell Conference
Norris Division Smythe Division Howe Division
Chicago Blackhawks Anaheim Ducks Calgary Flames
Columbus Blue Jackets Dallas Stars Colorado Avalanche
Detroit Red Wings Los Angeles Kings Edmonton Oilers
Nashville Predators Phoenix Coyotes Minnesota Wild
St. Louis Blues San Jose Sharks Vancouver Canucks
What is the one thing that stars you right in the face is how unbalanced the divisions are and even better yet how the geographical relations are umm a little screwy to say the least.
So with out any further ado complete with the first phase of realignment
