End of 40: Bruins 4, Canucks 0

BOSTON — Second verse, same as the first. The Bruins continue to lead the Canucks 4-0 after the second frame of Game 6 here at the TD Garden

  • The Canucks came out with something to prove in this period, remained composed (zero penalties) but still had no solution for the brick wall in which we call Tim Thomas. The soon-to-be Conn Smythe winner stopped all 11 shots this period — 22 in all.
  • Lots of back-and-forth hockey, no scoring, but tons of chances and even more hitting. The NHL stats keepers had 38 combined hits between the two teams in the second period.
  • The Canucks’ best chance came on the power play — Patrice Bergeron’s goalie interference — where the ‘Nucks offense kept it in the zone, firing shots off of Thomas, and ringing one great chance off the iron.
  • Brad Marchand laid-out Chris Higgins in the neutral zone, as the rookie continues to play on the edge. No. 63 registered two big hits this period, and has two shots on goal.
  • Tomas Kaberle has played a solid two periods thus far. He’s been handling the puck extremely well, has made good decisions, fired a handful of shots on net, and the coach has rewarded him with 12:57 TOI.
  • The Bruins will be shorthanded for the first 1:09 of the third period — killing off Bergeron’s elbowing minor. The Bruins have killed-off all three times short tonight which adds to their perfect streak of 23 in a row, while allowing just on PP goal against in 28 Vancouver opportunities.
