Bruins’ victory parade to be held Saturday

Just moments after landing in Logan Airport with the Stanley Cup, Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced that the Bruins will be holding their parade on Saturday, June 18th, beginning at 11 a.m. The route will start at the TD Garden and finish at Copley Square.

The Bruins became the last major sports franchise in Boston during a seven-year period to capture a Championship — and also became the first team in the city to win a championship since the 2008 Celtics. The Red Sox (2004, 2007) and Patriots (2003, 2004) won their respective titles in a five-year window. On top of that, the city celebrated a decade of dominance starting with the Patriots Super Bowl championship in 2001.

But make no mistake about it, the Bruins, and The Hub of Hockey, put the cherry on top with last night’s win over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7.

“It is our turn, and it’s so sweet,” Bruins President Cam Neely said after returning home earlier. “I know the passion that our fans have and I know how excited they are. It’s a sweet feeling.”
