Today’s moment seemed so radical at the time and yet it was only from 12 years ago.  Then just a few years later the NHL went a step further.  We almost seems due for the next radical OT change perhaps?  Well let’s get to this one first.

 

 

June 21, 1999


The NHL announced new rule changes for regular season overtime games (starting in 1999-2000): from now teams would play OT 4-on-4 (skaters) and each team would get one point for the tie, with an additional point going to the overtime winner.
