Why the Fans got the All Star voting right
Normally fans are up in arms with the MLB All Star Game fan selections to start the Mid-Summer Classic, well this year barring 2 players okay, 3 (I think Chipper should have gotten the Derek Jeter treatment) the fan balloting was right, the problem this year falls into the players and managers picks.
As previously written here, in an article for BBA, I selected my own 2011 MLB All-Star teams. In the American League I was wrong on Russell Martin starting at catcher (but he was selected to the team by the players vote), Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera had my vote for the starting AL SS, he also was selected by the players and Brett Gardner received my vote in LF because I felt what he has done offensively and defensively this season have him put him on the cusp of being an All-Star player. In the National League my only wrong choice as a starter was at 3rd Base and that player was Chipper Jones, who lost out on the voting to Phillies 3B Placido Polanco, not a terrible choice, but fans should have recognized that this could be Chipper’s last ASG and should have given him the nod.
